Tips for Visiting Great Sand Dunes National Park
- 1) Stay hydrated by bringing plenty of water, especially since you’re hiking in direct sunlight & the sand is hot.
- 2) Protect your feet from the heat by wearing double layers of socks or lightweight closed-toed shoes. We opted for socks!
- 3) Bring Sunscreen, sunglasses, & hats to protect yourself from intense sun.
- 4) Check Sand Conditions before heading out to inquire about current sand conditions. The sand can get exceedingly hot in the summer.
- 5) Rent sandboards before entering the park.
- Rent Sandboards from Oasis Sled Rental: We called them the day before to make sure they had enough rentals for when we were there. We rented them the morning we got to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. I’d call them ahead of time to make sure they have enough for the time period you’re considering going. We did sleds & a board.
